BRAZIL: Congress approves foreign currency accounts for all

The Brazilian senate approved a bill on 8 December establishing new regulations for the foreign exchange market. Amongst other things, the bill opens up the possibility of any individual or company being allowed to open an account in foreign currency in Brazil, including euros and US dollars, although it will ultimately befall the central bank (BCB) to establish the exact rules around this. Currently, accounts in foreign currency are only permitted in specific cases.
