Press freedom concerns persist in the region

The murders of two journalists this month in Guatemala and El Salvador, has reignited press freedom concerns in the sub-region. It follows the release weeks earlier of the 2016 World Press Freedom Index by international NGO, Reporters Sans Frontiéres (RSF), which found overall the level of press freedom in the region had declined. One exception was Costa Rica which has continued to improve its ranking and is now among the top ten countries in the world.
