HAITI: MINUSTAH needs at least four more years

The United Nations Stabilization Mission In Haiti, known by its French acronym MINUSTAH, needs at least four more years in the country, according to the UN special representative, Luis Carlos Da Costa, in an interview granted to news agency Efe on 6 July.
In February the UN extended its mission's operational period until 15 October. However, da Costa believes that the international force must remain for a "minimum of four years" to ensure a "transfer of power from the current government [under President René Préval elected in February 2006] to the next".
