GUYANA: Khan whisked away to the US

Guyana's most wanted man, Shaheed Roger Khan, was deported from Suriname on 29 June to be sent back to the neighbouring country. However, he never made it to Guyana. Flown to Trinidad and Tobago, Khan was intercepted by US officials who arrested him on drug trafficking charges and escorted him to Miami. A short while later he was taken to a jail in Brooklyn, New York where he currently awaits trial. In the meantime, however, pressure from Khan's powerful friends and fears of closeted skeletons have prompted current and former Guyanese presidents to criticise his unorthodox deportation.
