DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: No censure for campaigning on public funds

The blatant use of government resources in support of President Hipólito Mejí­a's re-election campaign has been denounced by civic election-monitoring NGOs and the main opposition party, both to the national electoral board, JCE, and to the OAS observer mission. Even four of the nine JCE members feel something must be done about it. The problem appears to be that under current Dominican law, there is nothing they can do - except complain and trust the voters.
